Sabalenka vs Vekic: will Aryna advance into the next round?
In the second round of Olympic tournament at Tokyo Aryna Sabalenka will play against Donna Vekic on July 26. We offer our prediction and betting tips for this match.
Leader of Belarus women's national team Aryna Sabalenka approached the Olympic Games in an excellent form and in a great mood. Aryna finally managed to put up an impressive performance on a Grand Slam tournament, reaching the semi-final of Wimbledon.
Belarusian player is one of the main golden medal contenders in Tokyo and so far she lives up to the expectations. In the first round Sabalenka had no problems with adaptation and she gave only three games to Magda Linette (6:2, 6:1).
Donna Vekic is coming back on tour in 2021 after a long injury. So far the only achievements of Croatian player are the round of 16 at Australian Open and the quarter-final in Birmingham. On other tournaments Donna was beaten in either first or second rounds.
A first round match in Tokyo against Caroline Garcia was pretty difficult for the Croatian player. Vekic had an advantage, but wasted too many chances on the receive. That's why she had to play three sets (6:2, 6:7, 6:3).
In two out of last three head-to-head matches opponents played more than nine games in the first set
In three most recent Sabalenka's matches more games were played in the first set than in the second one
Donna Vekic is 3;1 ahead on head-to-head matches. But Croatian player recorded all of her wins in 2016 and in 2017, before Aryna's breakthrough. Most recent head-to-head match ended with a victory for Sabalenka in straight sets.
Looking at the first round matches of both players, we should give our preference to the Belarusian player. Aryna put up a confident and stable performance in the match against Linette, so she should be able to record another confident win in the second round.
Our prediction - Sabalenka to win with a handicap of (-5) games
