Tomljanovic vs Svitolina: a win for the favourite?
Ajla Tomljanovic is having a great season for a player of her level. Her best result is the quarter-final of Wimbledon tournament. In London Ajla was stopped only by Ashleigh Barty (6:1, 6:3).
Start of the Olympics turned out to be difficult for Tomljanovic. She played against Yaroslava Shvedova. In the first set Ajla was losing 3:5, but managed to win four consecutive games after that. Kazakh player retired from the match during the second set. That's why we see Australian player in the second round.
Elina Svitolina (Monfils) had no match practice after an unsuccessful performance on Wimbledon, where she was beaten in the second round by Linette, but she had a wedding with Gael Monfils.
Many experts thought that Ukrainian player will have a difficult start of the Olympic Games at Tokyo. Her first opponent was a hard-working German player, Laura Siegemund. Opponents needed three hours to decide a winner. Svitolina eventually secured a victory in a difficult match (6:3, 5:7, 6:4).
In two out of three head-to-head matches Svitolina and Tomljanovic played no more than nine games in the second set
In two most recent head-to-head matches more games were played in the first set than in the second one
We can't say that Tomljanovic and Svitolina put up an impressive performances in their respective first round matches at Tokyo. Both players had many mistakes and were not looking confident while serving. But Ukrainian player has an advantage in head-to-head matches. It is obvious that Elina is not a comfortable opponent for Ajla. We offer to place a bet on Ukrainian player to win.
