Nagal vs Medvedev: no chance for the Indian tennis player?
On July 26, Sumit Nagal takes on Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the Tokyo Olympics. Will the World №2 defeat Sumit with a confident score? Our answer is in the prediction below.
Nagal was lucky with his first opponent at the Olympic tournament. In the first round, he played against Denis Istomin, and the representative of Uzbekistan couldn't fight off the Indian tennis player. As a result, Sumit celebrated the victory with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. We should point out, that the victory over Istomin was Nagal's first win on hard this season. He normally doesn't like playing on fast surfaces. Sumit prefers clay, on which he won 18 matches in 2021.
Medvedev came to Tokyo to win the gold. At least that's what he stated in his interviews. But the first match at the Olympics was not so easy for him. Alexander Bublik put up a tough fight, and Daniil won the second set on a tie-break (6-4, 7-6). The Russian played 16 matches on hard this season and won 14 of them. Medvedev lost only to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final and to Roberto Bautista Agut in the Miami Open quarterfinal.
In 4 out of the last 5 matches, the Indian player has won at least three games in the second set.
In 3 of Nagal's last 5 matches, no more than ten games were played in the first set.
Nagal has a big disadvantage in class, plus he is not so strong on fast surfaces. We don't think that the Indian player will be able to put up a fight against Medvedev. The Russian should easily outplay his opponent.
Our prediction - Daniil Medvedev to win with a handicap of (-6.5) games.
Prediction: Handicap (-6.5) to Medvedev

Nagal has lost most of his matches on hard. In most cases, it wasn't even a close fight. Considering how Sumit performs on this surface, we believe that the match will be short.
Second prediction - total under 18.5 games.
